Title: Beta readers
Post by: Moondreamer on August 09, 2012, 12:47:12 pm
Well, Aamartin already started a similar thread in 18+ but I didn't want to highjack it.  I am starting to work on Cael's idea on a pregnant Am, and am realising it's probably going to be a long one.  Long story short, seeing as I'm prone to weird typos and I suck at rereading my own stuff, would one or two people be interrested in beta reading for me?

I would. I think I'm good at editing.

I can certainly help on this front, just not the smut front! I'm pretty good with a red pen :)

Edit: one of these days I'm going to learn to not type posts or stories on my iPhone. Typos everywhere!

I'm a willing editor, as well.

No professional experience required, right? I admit my only qualifications are a love of reading and fondness for correct grammar.

As I'm no professionnal writer, a non-professional beta reader is fine :) I just need someone to tell me if my plot and my sentences make sense and sniff out weird grammar and even worse typos.

Then I can do that  :)

Ok, four should do the trick, thanks guys :D

So, would it be possible to message me your email adresses?  I should be ready to send chapter one today or tomorrow.

I need one or two VERY brave souls for a beta read on my EE5 fanfic.  I'm really not sure I'll post it unless my beta readers a-OK it.

FYI - It's NC-17.

So if you are brave, PM me.

After reading you fic Mana... I've had an idea in my mind for a long time, but never really dared to write it... But in the end, reading yours made me realize I'd probably feel better to put it down in writing.  That way, I'Ll be able to return to dad!Sic and daughter and laughter and fluffy things.  But... I wantd to cry while writing it.  Not sure if posting something about the very dark side of Sic's childhood is even a good idea.  What do you guys think?
Title: Re: Beta readers
Post by: Cael on August 24, 2012, 10:23:52 pm
Hmm... I'm of the opinion that any direct depiction of certain... implied goings-on of poor baby!Sic's childhood. But the other training methods would be fair game.

Not really anything graphic, but the implications ARE there... unfortunately... The fic itself tho is more like being in his mind.

Edit : Definitely not wanting it to become some graphic torture porn or whatever you call it...

Who wants to beta read the first chapter, in a lighter than the last two things I have written, fanfic?

I'm only at rough draft 1...  gonna eat breakfast, then edit, then it will be ready for beta readers.

I think I'll do the whole chapter posting at a time too, even though I normally like having the whole thing written before posting.  I may have as many as 9 chapters for this one...

Okay, kind of a beta reader question. What's a poor quality, cheap fabric Maldynado wouldn't usually wear?

I would think hand-made linen. Maybe cotton, but they don'T have the climate for it, so I would think it would be considered more expensive. But if factory-woven stuff is all the rage, hand-made fabrics would be for country folk.

Hey, folks, would anyone be interested in doing the first read of some Mal/Yara? I'm trying to get to a place where Mal is in a position to watch his kids trying to ride the cat because I love it too. So, AU, currently about 1500 words, possibly more if I get myself sorted out. I don't really need grammar checked, just some discussion/critique about characterization and possibly some writerly butt pats.

Reply however you want -- in thread or PM, whatever.

I think it'll have to be done newspaper-comic style too - Family Circus or Calvin & Hobbes ;)

Jolly Jack like would be epic!  With hundreds of Denizens watching who will then take the cat riding to the Nth degree.  probably with lazers  :o

I'd say on this side of never ;) I only found a couple of simple grammar corrections but I don't think there's anything I could do to make it any better beyond that. You guys are brilliant and EVIL and I'm still sniffling.

I may or may not, it might even be a figment of your fevered imagination, be in possession of a very short secret santacarius story that needs a quick beta read from someone who has more patience than the author.

it may be extremely short, only just topping the minimum word count, not that this story actually exists because this is just a hallucination caused by that cheese you ate last night.  you remember it, it was in the fridge, hiding behind the jar of mayo as it tried to build a sentient civilisation whilst beating off attacks from red skin tomatoes.

anyway, you might want to beta read this piece of your imagination

i am all over being a beta reader if it doesnt involve checking for spelling or grammatical errors. Bc that is not my field at all, im just here for the story. Sooo i may have just included my name on the list of people not to beta read, but again if you just want to send it out to someone who is not on the Santacarius for said reasons above, send it my way. I love hallucinations and cheese.
