Volunteer for the greater good?
« on: August 09, 2012, 10:34:54 am »
I'm writing something that I'm not quite sure how to classify: NC-17 or AU?

I wouldn't want to burn anybody's eyeballs. Perhaps someone familiar with Smexy writing could volunteer to beta read? (But you'll have to make a 1980s or earlier pop culture reference to prove you're legal!)

If I can get interested in Adam Ant even if he has walloped himself across the nose with a paint brush then I suspect I can give it a go ;)

Snort.

I certainly qualify as old enough (item: in 1988 I dressed up as Michael Dukakis for Election Day- eyeliner on my eyebrows and wearing my brother's suit under my school uniform. It was... special). But I think even if it's AU, if you think it's NC-17 (or 18+, whatever) it needs to be in THAT folder. You can subtitle it AU.

Ohhh... beta reader.. I want in but I don't know what pop cultural reference to make.  Maybe that all my friends were Backstreet boy fan when I was in 7th grade?  Or is that just sad  ???

Technically being "legal" now means making a mid-90's or earlier reference. Kids turnin 18 this year were born in 1994 :o

Hmmmm. Kitty, moldynotgo and Moondreamer seem old mature enough but Cael has only shown that she is good at math.

Your main problem is probably that the majority of 80s (or early 90s) pop culture cartoon tropes is available straight forward via Wikipedia and Google. Also there's been quite a few reruns and late releases on dvd & blueray. Troublesome, troublesome. Shazbat! ;)

For the records, I don't volunteer for betaing. I can't stop myself from affecting content & style along with typos and grammar (besides, I'm hopeless when it comes to English commas). :)

Pshaw, I'm an enjoyer not an editor ;) and despite my often juvenile posts I am old enough to drink and read smut. Often at the same time! As for the token reference to prove such, I'd like to bring up the Pound Puppies. Almost impossible to find even on channels like Boomerang when it was THE cartoon of my childhood. Travesty!

Problem with 80s is it is all coming back, Strawberry Shortcake, He-man, She-ra, Ghostbusters, My Little Pony, Cabbage Patch Kids, Garbage Pail Kids, The Mandy Doll, Easy Bake Oven, Shrinky Dink, gah the list could go on an on.

You ain't kidding! And not just the toys and TV shows - I walked into Forever 21 last week and it was kinda like stepping into a Madonna video.

My words exactly. A kiddo with enough tv time today might know the references better than those who saw it 20+ years ago remember them. ;)

Teddy Rukspin hasn't made a reappearance yet. I wish it would - I loved mine!

I found Teddy Rukspin to be slightly creepy as a kid... which didn't prevent me from wanting one really bad.  For omse reason, my parents always refused...
