Peer Pressure: Everyone else is writing a book; are you?
« on: September 12, 2012, 03:35:57 pm »
Alright.  I know at least one of us *coughkchighleycough* has recently published a book, and I'm willing to bet there are others who have, or will soon, or hope to at some point.  So, c'mon, fess up!

Hello, my name is E House, and I am an unfinished novelist.

That was always my plan, if I ever got fired.

This week, I was warned I'm about to get fired. Aw nuts.

*clears throat*

Yeah, I'm several months behind in production on one of mine
Amaranthe/Sicarius fangirl, who wonders why she has a fondness for fictional characters that she'd suspects she'd flee if she met 'em in real life.

Eww, sorry to hear that.  Forewarned is, uhm, good?  Or possibly insult onto injury?  Either way, as Frito Pendejo would say, I supersize with you.

Thanks exstock. Yeah, it's actually kind - they up and fired about 10 people with no warning at all this week, so the "you're not fired yet, but you should start looking for another job" conversation really WAS nice.

Well, yes, now that you mention it, I have two novels in progress. Maybe if I didn't spending so much time EEing (yes, it's a verb) I'd make some progress on them.

Guilty as charged. I hadn't thought of it in quite a while, but with all the fanfictionning I've been doing on here, I've been thinking of starting again.

That does sound much better than "Tralala, everything is fine, BOOM!" (Or, "Tralala, everything is--hey wait, why do my paychecks keep bouncing?" as happened to me once.  :P)  So, good on them, but I still supersize!  And I'm sure you'll find something great ...or write a great book.  ;)

Maybe if I didn't spending so much time EEing (yes, it's a verb) I'd make some progress on them.

I have been rationalizing my procrastination thusly: while reading other people's books, I keep coming up with all sorts of brainstorms for my own books.  Not in a plagiaristic sort of way, of course, just in a "huh, I hadn't figured out how that works in my own world, and I should," type of way.  Or, "Oh, nonono.  What a stupid take on that particular trope.  It should go like THIS instead."  Or, "Huh.  Emperor's apple.  Hey, wait, what do they call tomboys in my own little world?"

I'd rather play in someone else's sandbox than build my own

It's always been the back my mind. usually really really far back. verizon fanfiction his remind me how much fun it is. I've been seriously contemplating trying to pull together some of my random ideas that I have had floating around for years

I've worked on stuff off and on my whole life, but never produced anything of consequence.

Of course, most of my stuff is dark so there probably isn't a market for it anyway.  :)
