Sicarius as a Dad
« on: August 22, 2013, 02:01:11 pm »
I know that Sicarius is so devoted to Sespian and would undoubtedly protect him with his life, but how good would he be with hands on baby raising. Even his ideal scenario for protecting Sespian is standing behind him to guard his back--like a personal body guard.

So what do you think Sicarius would do to raise a kid? Would he be the one who gives in to all the kid's demands or be the one to stay firm? Can you even picture his being a father?

I imagine him as the panicking-slightly-on-the-inside, what-do-I-do dad with a newborn. It would be as lovely awkward as his attempts at humor and outward emotion in FiB 1&2.

As for a parent of a toddler or older, I don't think he's be a pushover but easily manipulated in certain situations, like buying a new toy or when tears show up (because of a boy?). Am would be the lead parent, mostly because he realizes he's socially awkward and most likely will always be. He trusts Am's people skills and general social knowledge above his own and would want his kids to absorb it.

Remember when that little boy tried to show him his boat? And Sicarius was walking around with the kid attached to his leg? Haha.

He'd let them crawl all over him. He wouldn't have to worry about how to initiate contact because little kids will just throw themselves at you.

I thought it was kind of funny that Amaranthe told Sespian that Sicarius didn't expect a hugging relationship, but then in books 6 and 7 Sicarius spent a lot of time thinking about how to get a hug from his son.

It would be easy to manipulate him with affection. He'd see it for what it was, and he'd let it happen anyway, most of the time.

He'd try to teach them things. He reached out to Sespian by trying to teach him knife throwing and sneaking skills. He likes to go into instructor-mode with Amaranthe. In conversations with Rias, he kept wishing he could change the subject to something academic rather than interpersonal. I get the impression that, growing up, the most normal relationships he had were with his tutors.

tl;dr: He would be a taskmaster about homework. :)

He would be very supportive of hobbies. If any of the kids liked art, that child would have a constant supply of paint and chalk.

I think he would be better about showing emotion to the children than to anyone else, even Amaranthe. I can see him alone in a room with a baby, teaching himself how to smile.
This appears to have fallen from a great height.

I still have that image of Sicarius as a new dad : baby is teething and has been screaming her (it's always a daughter in my mind, go figure) little lungs out all day. Amaranthe is exhausted and crawls into bed. And then, she wakes in the middle of the night to realize the baby hasn't woken her up and seeing as she's been crying so much, it's not normal. Sicarius is also gone, which is strange. She gets up and rushes to check on baby and, from the doorway, she sees Sic with baby and he's singing a lullaby with a voice that sounds like he's never sung in his life and.... well, heart melting :P

I hear that.  Work is crazy, the kids just started up with school and I'm beseiged by plot bunnies from another fandom demanding to be written.  If I have the time I seem to be exhausted.  If I'm not exhausted then I'm doing something else!

Moon your plot bunny has migrated.  It hopped into my dreams last night and its chewing on me now.  May I steal your idea and write it?
